Everyone still coming down from their NYFW high? Usually I'm much more on track with watching the streams of the shows, knowing the lineup, etc, but I had much less time to get completely lost in all of the fashion week coverage because of poorly-timed midterms - such a bummer. Good thing is they are over and done with! Now I have London, Milan, and Paris to look forward to!
In other news, it's Valentine's Day! I hope everyone-in a relationship or rocking that single status-has a wonderful day!
We're off to a good start this season, and here are a few of my favorites from the collections thus far!
It was all edgy and rocker chic for Edun's collection this season. Plenty of leather was shown in the form of vests, pants, jackets, and basically everything else, but tweed opened up the show while a variety of plaids ran throughout. Thin chains were put on scarves and shirts, and in terms of styling it was all layers on layers on layers - something I see no problem with.
Everything shown on the runway for Rebecca Minkoff's fall line is pretty much what I want hanging in my closet right now. The collection was cool, wearable, and a little rough around the edges - so basically, everything you could want. Plenty of prints were shown, and the show was closed out with boldly colored, structured dresses, adding a good amount of volume to the collection.
Cushnie et Ochs
It was all sleek, simple, and sexy at Cushnie et Ochs. For the most part lines were kept clean and a series of geometric cutouts made slinky dresses stand out. The palette was black and white, with a few printed pieces and deep greens thrown in for good measure. Fabrics ranged from satin to leather with two fox fur embellished coats, in both black and white of course.
It's a fact: Jason Wu can not put out a bad collection. This season was mostly black, white, and red all over (with a few other colors thrown in here and there, like that gorgeous cobalt blue finale dress) with lace-on-plastic giving a number of pieces and extra special something. The fur accents and pleats, along with the two sheer striped tops also made Wu's latest collection another triumph.
Most of the talk of the newest issue of i-D is all Kate Moss and her four covers (plus, one gorgeous editorial) but right now I can't get over Karmen Pedaru's cover! It's fun, lively, and all sorts of Jem and the Holograms-fantastic!
If having the most flawless halftime show ever wasn't amazing enough, last night's Superbowl means another added perk of a 20% off sale at ASOS! Even more perfect is the timing - I don't know how the weather is treating you, but these temperatures in Chicago are keeping me indoors and away from all stores at the moment, so a good excuse for little online shopping is definitely a welcomed treat! Below are some of the pieces I've got my eyes on:
Hi lovely people! I'm not going to bring you down with tons on tons of details of the way life has been going but let's just say I have not been the greatest judge of character lately, and am coming to terms with the fact that for the sake of my own sanity, no friends might be better than terrible friends, and that little clue should help to explain why I haven't been in much of the blogging mood lately.
Oddly enough, my social life may be a bit of a mess now, but my academic life is actually wonderful. Usually it is either all or not nothing, but no not is all bad here! I'm happy to be more into my major this quarter and loving my journalism classes. It is a real relief to feel like I went to school with the right idea in mind. Something that makes me even more excited is my love of the fashion industry has been back in full force lately! Then again, it is kind of a little sad that life is actually to the point of "people may come and go, but my clothes will never leave me".... BUT SCREW IT I LOVE MY CLOTHES.
Anyways, back to the fashion....NYFW is almost upon us and I am looking so forward to it! Not only will I be regularly doing my little "Runway Roundups" here again, but now I get to cover each fashion week for the DePaul paper! You know, I may not be writing professionally about the collections, but at least it's getting published! Plus, it'll be like a little mock run of what I want for the future - without all the running around in fabulous clothes, seeing all the beautiful people, and networking with fashion's finest - but other than that, it is kind of, sort of the same!
So, a little update of where I am at in my life, and what I hope to be an oath that I will actually stick to of getting re-focused and staying that way.
Enjoy your weekend (and for those in the U.S., have a great Superbowl Sunday)!
